Amy is a fibre artist based in the Peak District, working with fully traceable British Wool.
“I buy my fleeces directly from the farm and then wash, spin and weave the wool in small batches. This allows me to showcase the natural colours and characteristics of different sheep breeds – creating truely unique and sustainable items for your home and wardrobe.
I started my business after learning how much money farmers were getting for their fleeces. So much of our homegrown wool is just being thrown away because the price they are getting doesn’t cover the cost of transport let alone shearing. Meanwhile the high street is full of synthetic fibres and the wool you do see has travelled from the otherside of the world.
I want to showcase what’s possible with wool and celebrate its natural beauty; hopefully therefore increasing the demand again for British wool.”
